Bolognaragazzi Awards 2025

The prize for outstanding books

The BolognaRagazzi Award celebrates its 60th edition this year, marking six decades of excellence in children’s publishing. Established as one of the most prestigious international prizes in the field, the award continues to recognise outstanding achievements in visual storytelling, editorial design, and innovation in picture books. As the BRAW key word is innovation, the prize represents an amazing opportunity to learn where the industry is heading through a first-hand understanding of ongoing trends and experimentation. Across the years, the BRAW has been a great international launch pad for authors and illustrators, leading to the sale of rights of the winning books in many new countries. The award encompasses five main categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Opera Prima (a prize for first-time authors and illustrators), Toddler and Comics. The 2025 special category is dedicated to Sustainability. Nominated books should explore one or more themes related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals Book Club. This year, a special Honourable Mention was introduced within the Sustainability category to recognize a title that has profoundly resonated with the jury in an extraordinary way. The international jury can also confer a special New Horizons recognition, for particularly innovative books. This edition saw 3858 titles submitted from 68 countries and regions of the world with some new entries: Guatemala, Mongolia, Morocco, Nigeria, Qatar and Vietnam.
